Collegium Scriptorum Catholicae
This group is an attempt to respond to the lack of good Catholic fiction available in the marketplace. To that end, we are a group of Traditionalist Catholics who assist each other with critiquing manuscripts and discussing literary issues.

My name is Diana, I'm 23 years old, and I enjoy meeting new people even if it is just online.
I read romantic sort of books. I used to read stuff by L. M. Montgomery. Now I read some Nicholas Sparks such as A Walk To Remember and The Wedding. I'm reading True Believer as of now.
Changing the subject a little, I admire actors such as Mel Gibson and Jim Caviezel who are both Traditional.
I'd like to get to know what anyone is reading. Anything really awesome??

Diana

Are you allowed to look at the other fora Diana? If so, you might want to look at:

where some people were talking about just that. I've been reading the Silmarilion by Tolkien, Orthodoxy by Chesterton, and God Is Near Us by Pope Benedict XVI, and History of Mediaeval Warfare. I like all four of these, though I will recommend the last only if you are interested in the subject of the title.

I read A Walk to Remember some time ago and enjoyed it; I also saw the movie version of the Notebook and found it to be reprehensible in that it endorsed fornication, infidelity, despair, and suicide. My opinion of Mr. Sparks hasn't been so high since; if you've read the book, is it as bad as that?

Thanks for visiting, book_lover_princess.

Currently, only writer/members of the Collegium are able to view the "General Discussion" section, although I am open to changing this policy if the members don't mind non-members being able to view those discussions ... I don't think there's anything subject to copyright in the General Discussion forum that we need to worry about.

I just recently finished reading Megan Whalen Turner's series of three books, The Thief, The Queen of Attolia, and The King of Attolia. They are classified as "young adult" so perhaps not as "deep" as other works, but they were very captivating, interesting, and totally free of any immorality. If you enjoy fantasy fiction, these are pretty good. I'm not crazy about some aspects of the work, but its definitely better than any other fantasy I've read aside from Tolkein.

Aside from that, I'm working my way through Romano Amerio's

which is a must read for anyone who wants to understand all the changes that occurred in the Catholic Church during the 20th Century. It's very heavy reading, but thorough.

I don't know a lot about Jim Caviezel, although his portrayal of Our Lord was by far the best I've seen in film. I definitely share your admiration of Mel Gibson. Have you ever seen his

? It is fantastic ... I really hope that one day I can be as well-spoken as Mr. Gibson is about the faith.
