Collegium Scriptorum Catholicae
This group is an attempt to respond to the lack of good Catholic fiction available in the marketplace. To that end, we are a group of Traditionalist Catholics who assist each other with critiquing manuscripts and discussing literary issues.

My name is Matthew Chambers; I live in California and am currently pursuing a doctorate in Materials Science and Engineering, and I have modest backgrounds in languages, music, and dance. My favorite authors are Tolkien and Chesterton.

I enjoy flights of fancy as well as works of profound truth. Like all members of the College, I recognize the authority of the one catholic Church; thus, this College: to ensure amongst ourselves adherence to what is true and to avoid the sorts of fiction that stray into curiositas.

My interests are artistic, not pragmatic; expression, not argument. The work I intend is not primarily for the challenging of minds and wills already badly corrupted, but for the expression of the certain things that I hold valuable. In any case, it is easier to snap a man out of a foolish stupor than to argue him out of it piecemeal or beat him into submission.

Matt, in his profile, enunciated one of the main reasons I founded the Collegium; as a community for fellow Catholics to help each other stay on the write track while trying to become better writers through mutual critique and discussion of important issues.

My interest in writing is perhaps more "pragmatic" than Matt ... I hope with my writing to provide decent fiction that fellow Catholics can read without scandal, and also things that will help to make non-Catholics question their beliefs or plant some good seeds. As Bishop Williamson

"... as St. Augustine said, all truth belongs to Catholics, meaning that Catholics can profit by truth wherever they find it ... [good art] can provide a good “sentimental education”, or education in the human heart. A far better education of the heart than either Hollywood or television provide." For my own part I feel that reading tales of chivalry and courage as a child helped to prepare me to embrace the True Faith. So, I hope that with my writing I can help, even if in only a very infitesimal way, my fellow man.
