Collegium Scriptorum Catholicae
This group is an attempt to respond to the lack of good Catholic fiction available in the marketplace. To that end, we are a group of Traditionalist Catholics who assist each other with critiquing manuscripts and discussing literary issues.

I noticed that today we have a new member, karinafabian. As we've been having problems with fake "spam" members of late, I looked into the profile to check whether this is a real person, and indeed, she is!

Thank you for visiting, Mrs. Fabian. Please say hello if you have a mind do.

For members of the group, here is her website:

Catholic science fiction that's been published, no less. I thought we were the only ones interested in this stuff. Fascinating. Thanks for visiting us.

Hello and thanks for the warm welcome.

I'd have responded sooner, but had problems signing in. I see I'm still not allowed on some of the chats. We'll get it figured out.

At any rate, I'm Karina Fabian, President of the Catholic Writers' Guild and author/editor of two anthologies, a couple of unpublished novels and a great many articles and stories. You can read more about me in general at

My first published work, Infinite Space, Infinite God is an anthology of science fiction which examines the Catholic faith in the future--how we'll deal with everything from genetically engineered chimeras to time travel. There's even a good old-fashioned alien abduction with a twist--the aliens want their abductee to explain the Bible and the Catechism. It's already available as an e-book and is coming out in print in August. Read more at

I also write a series of mysteries involving a Catholic dragon detective and his Church Mage partner. Dragon Eye, PI has one story upcoming in Firestorm of Dragons and a series in The Prairie Dawg, which I'm novelizing as we speak. Vern, my dragon, even has his own website:

I'll check out the other forum and see if there's something else I need to do to join the collegium; in the meantime, I'm looking forward to cyber-meeting all of you.

Blessings,

At the present, only full writer/members have access to all of the fora. I'm debating giving access to visitors for the General Discussion and Off Topic fora. I take it from your comments that you are interested in joining as a writer/member of the Collegium -- we'll correspond about that via email.

The Infinite Space, Infinite God anthology looks interesting. A number of the writers here are interested in science fiction ... you've given me an idea that I should ask the members of the Collegium to consider doing an anthology (currently our collaboration consists of critique and discussion but not on working together on books).

I couldn't open the link. Could you tell us a little bit more about this guild? I'm not sure what you mean by "loyal to the Magisterium" ... I trust that loyalty to the Faith of all times (as outlined in the

Thanks again for visiting. I hope some of the other members will have time to say hello.

Just thought I'd share the good news. Infinite Space, Infinite God won the EPPIE for best electronically published science fiction for 2007. I'm especially thrilled since we competed against novels and secular works.

Naturally, this is a reflection on the quality of our writers:

Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff

Rose Dimond

Colleen Drippe'

Alex Lobdell

Alan Loewen

Simon Morden

Tim Myers

Ken Pick

Adrienne Ray

Lori Z. Scott

J Sherer

If you know any of them, please give them your congratulations.

I'm not familiar with EPPIE, but considering that you were contending against secular works, this is an achievement indeed. Congratulations on a job well done as editor and to the writers. It is no small feat to gain such recognition for a Catholic work.

Thanks for the congrats on the EPPIE. It's a fairly big group of electronically published authors and e-presses. Colleen's story, incidentally, has gotten several good comments by reviewers.

Infinite Space, Infinite God is the book of the month on the Christian Fiction Review Blog group April 1-7. I invite you to see what this group says about ISIG. You can see details at www.cfrblog.blogspot.com and

. The virtual book tour site is mine and I'll be posting each day, so there will be a movie book trailer, behind-the-scenes stories and snippets of what others are sayng about the book.

Incidentally, review blog rolls like the CFRB are a good way to get the word out about your book. I don't know of any Catholic ones out there yet.

Blessings,

Thanks, Karina, for sharing the good news about ISIG, its recent EPPIE award, and other details on getting news out for Catholic fiction. You've been at this for much longer than I have and I appreciate all your suggestions and work.
