Collegium Scriptorum Catholicae
This group is an attempt to respond to the lack of good Catholic fiction available in the marketplace. To that end, we are a group of Traditionalist Catholics who assist each other with critiquing manuscripts and discussing literary issues.

Hello my name is Paul, im a young Canadian, I'm 17 years old and am discerning priesthood.

I am still in highschool, but if I find that God is not calling me to religious life then i hope to be an author and/or journalist. I am trying to get into Catholic Sci-Fi, fiction and historical fiction.

My goal is sort of more aimed at writing interesting captivating Catholic Fiction and maybe movie scripts in an attempt at evangelization and making the world more interested in the Church. If anyone has read "The Red Hat" by Ralph Mcinerny, that is basically what I'm aiming at.

May God bless you in your discernment of a vocation to the priesthood. It is always great to see a young man such as yourself willing to enter into serious discernment and be willing to answer the call if it is indeed there.

These are certainly both areas I'm interested in. I assume you've read The Lord of the Rings, the quintessential Catholic fiction work. For science fiction, have you tried A Canticle for Liebowitz? Another excellent work and very Catholic (the main characters are all monks).

I'll have to look into it. I take it the red hat refers to a cardinal?

Yah, the main Character in the Red Hat is the Bishop of Washington. He awaiting to be declared cardinal, and in doing so he is acting political and trying not to cause any conflict or problems. . Much else happens(based around the time of the death of JPII).
The theology is quite similar to everything I've read by Pope Benedict(when he was Ratzinger).

Welcome to the group! Hope with the new members it'll start moving a bit quicker than it has been. I haven't been on much recently myself (my fault), but I am still interested in the place, and try to get here when I can steal a moment from my other activities.

Enjoy! ^_^

JMJ
It is great to hear of someone willing to write with the aim of converting readers. THere are dangers in this, however, the main one being a temptation to sugar coat the Faith so much that you end up not telling the truth. Some theologians have this problem too. Remember that God converts -- we only provide the things He works with. It's a good idea to pray for your readers, too.
Meanwhile, I hope we'll have a chance to see a sample of your writing.
